The Hong Kong Coalition of Service Industries, the service industry arm
of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce organised a seminar on “Business
Intelligence in Times of Ups and Downs” on 21 April 1999. The seminar also 
coincided with the inauguration of the Management Consultancies Association
of Hong Kong, an association set up to promote the professional services offered by Hong
Kong management consultancy companies and to represent the interests of the sector. The
Launching Ceremony was officiated by Mr W K Lam, Secretary for the Civil Service.
A vibrant management consultancy industry is seen by both local and overseas businesses as key to maintaining SAR's future as a major international business centre, especially at a time when Hong Kong is still struggling to recover its economy. Management consulting adds value to Hong Kong by helping companies and organisations to become more efficient and competitive, and through its ability to transfer global best practice management tools and techniques to the local business environment.
The seminar focused on how management consultancy helps to enhance the competitive advantage of local businesses at this difficult time. Speakers at the seminar include Professor Michael Enright from the University of Hong Kong, Peter Barrett from Organisation Development Limited, David Ng from Arthur Anderson & Co, and K K Yeung from K K Yeung Management Consultants Ltd. Mr K K Yeung is the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Management Consultancies Association of Hong Kong.
About 500 guests from the Government and business sector attended the seminar, which was financed by the Services Support Fund of the Industry Department, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

香港服務業聯盟（香港總商會旗下服務業組織）在
4月22日主辦「順逆境中的營商智慧」研討會。研討會舉行當日，香港管理顧問協會亦同時成立，並由公務員事務局局長林煥光先生主禮。該會成立的目的，旨在推廣本港管理顧問公司的專業服務和代表業界權益。本地及海外商界一致認為，當香港仍致力推動經濟復甦之際，管理顧問業的蓬勃發展，將對特區保持成為主要國際商業中心起重要作用。管理顧問界協助公司及機構提高效率及競爭力，並將全球的優質實務管理工具及技術轉移予本地商界，為本港帶來裨益。
研討會集中討論管理顧問界如何在逆境中協助本地商界促進競爭優勢，出席的講者包括香港大學的恩來特教授、機構發展顧問有限公司的畢烈、安達信公司的吳頌煒及楊國琦顧問有限公司的楊國琦。楊國琦先生是香港管理顧問協會籌劃指導委員會主席。
研討會由香港特別行政區政府工業署服務業支援資助計劃撥款資助，出席者包括政府及工商界代表約五百人。
