Notes

  1. GDP at current market prices
  2. Since August 2000, the “resident population” approach has been adopted in place of the “extended de facto” approach for compiling population estimates and revised population figures backdated to 1996 have been compiled. Population figures and population-related figures from 1996 onwards have been revised accordingly. They are thus not strictly comparable with those of earlier years.
  3. Total public expenditure on fiscal year basis; total expenditure on GDP on calendar year basis.
  4. Estimates, subject to revisions later on as more data become available.
  5. Including agriculture and fishing, mining and quarrying
  6. Figures based on a set of composite employment estimates derived from data collected in the General Household Survey and the Quarterly Survey of Employment and Vacancies. The yearly figures refer to the averages of the four quarterly estimates of the year.
  7. The Composite CPI covers about 90% of households in Hong Kong with a monthly household expenditure of HK$4,000-59,999 per month in the base period (1994/95), and its year-on-year rate of change is often taken as a measure of general inflation. The CSPI is developed by the HKCSI and is derived from the services items in the CPI. The Composite CSPI occupies 49.75% of the weighting of the Composite CPI.
  8. Including adjustment for financial intermediation services indirectly measured.
  9. Including electricity, gas and water.
  10. Including wholesale, retail and import/export trade.
  11. Including restaurants and hotels.
  12. Figures on the number of persons engaged include individual operators such as taxi, public light buses and goods vehicles for land transport services; barges/lighter and stevedoring services providers for maritime transport services; retail pitches and hawkers for wholesale and retail services.
  13. Figures on number of establishments and persons engaged refer to data processing and tabulating services industry only.
  14. Excluding pre-paid SIM cards.
  15. Figures do not include users who are not customers of the licensed Internet Services Providers (ISPs), such as users of the campus networks in the universities.
  16. Including transients and seamen.

* Percentages do not add up to 100% because of rounding.
